I loved this book! Every character had an interesting story. The confusion and instability in London at the end of WWII is so well described. Very realistic stories and a very enjoyable read.

A fabulous story! Something I think we all wonder about - what if? - but that doesn't necessarily mean a better or worse life, just different. It's what we do with what we have and being open to possibilities. Loved this book!

Early on in the story I thought it might be a modern remake of Turn of the Screw, but the unexpected and plausible ending made it an excellent read of its own. A very good page turner.

I loved reading this book! So well written and a fascinating story. Characters multi-faceted and story complex but understandable. Read it every chance I had because I wanted to know what would happen next! A great read!

A little slow to start - didn't really like the main character - but then the story picked up and became a real page-turner! Several times I thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong. I enjoyed this weekend read!

More terrible than beautiful. A very one-sided story of a marriage breakup. Found the narrative very self-serving but continued reading with the hope there might be some self-awareness of being perhaps partly responsible for the marital difficulties with her unrealistic fairy tale attitude. Knew that was not going to happen when she started diagnosing her ex with Google-defined psychiatric illnesses. Very irresponsible, and apparently is planning to become a counselor?! A very disappointing story.More terrible than beautiful. A very one-sided story of a marriage breakup. Really enjoyed this book! Interesting to find out how other societies are structured based on what matters most of them. A few surprises, too! Very interesting. Makes me want to make some positive changes in my own life to hopefully benefit society.

Not the type of book I usually read - I wouldn't have even bothered had I known there was a demon in the story. But this book is so well written, nicely paced, with such interesting characters, I'm glad I ignored my usual bias and read it. Enjoyed it very much! Such an interesting book! I only put it down when I had to and couldn't wait to get back to it. So unexpected, mysterious, fascinating and really makes you wonder - is this possible? Could it be happening? Very good read!

I almost gave up early on in this book because I found the narrator arrogant and derogatory towards others, but I enjoyed the writing and scenery so I continued reading. I'm glad I stuck with it because it is a very interesting story about an insecure woman worried about her future. The ending was quite unpredictable and satisfying, too.I almost gave up early on in this book because I found the narrator arrogant and derogatory towards others, but I enjoyed the writing and scenery so I continued reading. I was rather disappointed in this memoir. I think it was because I expected more about the wife's experience with the diagnosis of mental illness and the treatment, but the entire story was from the perspective of her husband. Perhaps the title should be "My Experience of My Lovely Wife in the Psych Ward." It would have been more accurate. While he did an excellent job describing the difficulty, upheavel and frustration a family endures with the diagnosis of mental illness, the story just seemed too one-sided and a bit self-indulgent for me.I was rather disappointed in this memoir. Such a good story! All I could think about was getting back to the book to find out what is happening in Ginny's life now. She's a teenaged autistic girl who had a very difficult beginning but seems to have settled well with her adoptive family except for one obsession she just can't let go. I really enjoyed this book about the ups and downs in the friendship of two women who meet at a very young age at school. Interesting contrast between the only-child's typical 1930's family and the other child's bohemian family's lifestyle. Interesting, very well-written story that I found hard to put down, but I found the ending (or the answer to the mystery) a bit disappointing. Would read another book by this author though; enjoyed his writing very much.

Didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would, especially after reading comparisons to Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train. I found the main character ridiculously naïve, especially for such a brilliant scientist. Found in the end I really didn't care what happened to her or her co-accused and the great reveal at the end was an unsurprising letdown.Didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would, especially after reading comparisons to Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train. Great story. I was not prepared for the turn of events and had to read one page a couple of times to make sure I got it right. Not sure if it was the translation but there were a couple of lines that I thought could be nominated for worst lines in a novel, but not a problem. I was still riveted to the very end.Great story.
