I was so looking forward to reading this book, after hearing about it from other sources. I was disappointed. Reading about awe is nothing like experiencing awe. I had to force myself to keep reading this book. There were a few interesting parts that resonated with me, but overall, I did not care for this book. I loved The Nature Fix: Why Nature Makes Us Happier, Healthier, and More Creative by Florence Williams, and I recommend reading that instead.I was so looking forward to reading this book, after hearing about it from other sources. This book is OUTSTANDING! I recommend it to anyone who cares about books, libraries, trust, and the future of our democracy. The parallels to our own situation today are chilling.

Or the ones trying to put out the fire?”This book is OUTSTANDING! I recommend it to anyone who cares about books, libraries, trust, and the future of our democracy. I loved this book! It is fascinating and inspiring! I learned so many new things! For example, I have always understood that young children can learn new languages more easily than adults because the pathways in their brains are open early in life. That is not accurate, or at least is not complete; adults can learn new languages quickly if they are willing to start speaking right away despite making mistakes. I am also fascinated about the Finnish education system and what they do differently from (and better than) the US. The idea that character skills can be learned at any age and used to unlock hidden potential is exciting! I have enjoyed Adam Grant's previous books, but I think this is his best so far. I hope you will all read it!I loved this book! It is fascinating and inspiring! I learned so many new things! When I heard that there was a new Vanderbeeker book coming out, I was initially delighted! Then I learned that the new book would be the conclusion of the series, and that made me sad, but I still wanted to read it. Then I read it, and I was hugely disappointed.
I would have been disappointed in this installment of the Vanderbeeker series even if it had not been the final book in the series, but I am distressed that this book is how this author decided to end this series. I think she ran out of steam writing this series, or she lost interest. That is very sad.
This book is longer than the other books, and it focuses on the illness of one character to the exclusion of practically any other character or subplot. It is relentless. It is really quite depressing. It is a terrible way to end this series! It gives very short shrift to all the other characters we love, and then it ends the whole series!
I loved this series (especially the first five books), but this book is a downer. This book did not include enough joy to counter the sad parts.
I give this book 2.5-3 stars. I never thought I would give a Vanderbeeker book such a poor rating, but honestly, it is that high only because it includes these wonderful characters, even if minimally. When I heard that there was a new Vanderbeeker book coming out, I was initially delighted!
