I read for enjoyment. This book was not that; too violent and depressing for me even though I know what was described actually did happen in history. I only got through part one and had to stop. Sorry Jodi...

I have read several books about the holocaust and I have to say this is the most descriptive, graphic and troubling. Sage Singer, a young baker, develops a friendship with 95 year-old Josef Weber, a former SS who worked in Auschwitz who…

A truly magnificent read.

The short summary of the book that comes with the cover lets the reader know that the book tells the story of two people, the introvert baker and the man with a secret. It completely skips any hint the secret he carries is that he was a…

Young Jewish woman Sage becomes friends with an old German man. He confesses that he was an SS officer in WW11. He wants her to help him die and he wants forgiveness. Story line is weak but descriptions of the camps and life there were…

I knew from the beginning that Sage, introduced as a non believer Jew and Josef, who was obviously, a transparent character, a secret Nazi, given his being German and 90. The Holocaust scenarios were the most gripping, lest the public…

To be honest there are so many better books about this subject ~ The Tattooist of Auschwitz, for one. This book was not one of Jodi Picoult's best as I was previously so impressed with Small Great Things and A Spark of Light. I will try…

My first and last book by this author. So trite and stupid and unbelievable. A Jewish girl works in a bakery for a former Catholic nun and has an affair with her mother's undertaker. Does this grab anyone yet? She later meets an…

Loved this book. It’s a heartbreaker. Rich and complex in thoughts and relationships and gives the harsh realities of the holocaust through various lenses. The twist comes as Jodi so often provides. No judgement, we all inject our own.

I liked this book, but it seemed so back and forth. Took a really long time to get to the ending - which can sometimes be enjoyable but this one seemed prolonged.

When I discovered Jodi Picoult's novels, I read all but two (saving those two just so I'd have something to look forward to). Since then I've read a dozen novels from "What do I read while waiting for the next Jodi Picoult novel?" lists. …

Loved the story within the story. This was sad and the topic so tragic but it really made me think about how nothing is black and white. I've read other similar stories that tell the POV of the German side, but this was still a very…

I'm just luke-warm on this book. There are so many other books written on this subject that I feel were much better than this. I've only read a couple of Picoult's books and I find them predictable and a little sappy. The ending was no…

Excellent tension between the need to forgive and the advisability of forgetting the wrongs of history. Did Grandma do the right thing in telling her concentration camp story granddaughter? Is the FBI agent legally right but morally past…

This was one of the best books I've ever read! I cried through a lot of it. The ending was a surprise, I did not see that coming.

This book was difficult to get through for some book club members due to the subject matter while others could not finish only because of the graphic holocaust segments within the story. The opinions of those that finished the book and…

. It is a story within a story, told from several viewpoints. In the present there is a baker who is dealing with survivor stress, as well as an older man who is dealing with the same issue but also over-whelming guilt. The stories in…

I think The Storyteller is a great read for anyone who loves the Holocaust, mystery, drama with a hint of romance and strong characters who make the story come to life. This book revolves around Sage SInger. She has had a very tough life…
