Was an okay read. Didn’t love it as much as I loved ‘ The giver of stars’

A bit hard to stick with. The first jump in time I thought it was a different story. Transitions could, should, have been cleaner and smoother. Stuck with it, and was an ok read. Definitely not my favourite Moyes story.

Really enjoyed the depth of character in this book. Great story and love the way for two timelines came together.

Although different from what she usually writes, Jojo Moyeses The Girl You Left Behind is a really good story which revolves around the 1915 painting of Sophie Lefèvre and it’s eventual ownership by Liv Halston more than 100 years later.…

I really enjoyed the character development (again - she is a great author), but like some of the other comments, the change back and forth in time was a little hard to keep straight

I am ambivalent about this book. In the beginning I felt I liked it and then I wondered where it was going. When it came to the present I was thoroughly confused. Finally when the past and present were tied together I got engrossed in the…

Not sure I would have behaved like the main character but it was a good way to learn about history

This was just 'ok' for me. Not my typical genre, but definitely a good story. I enjoy Moyes novels nonetheless.

This is a different Moyes than I'm used to but still a great and entertaining read with a serious topic to explore and great narrators to tackle it.

Really good story. I find these books hard to put down, easy to read.

JoJo Moyers delivers another heart warming novel. I have done extensive study on WWII lost and stolen art and this setting provided a wonderful story line Characters were touching and her ability to shift from one century to another was…

Immediately got totally absorbed in this book and then came part two and it started to fall apart. But it picked up the pace again. A couple of spots near the end again I lost my interest but had come so far that I knew I'd finish it. …

This one took me awhile to get into as I wasn't as interested in the "past" as I was in the "present" - probably the opposite of most people, but that's how it was for me. The last 1/3 of the book flew by though and I ended up enjoying it!

I couldn't decide how I felt about this story, the whole way through. It seemed like the book couldn't quite decide if it was 'serious historical novel' or cliched chick-lit. At times I couldn't put it down because I was so immersed in the…

Reminds "The Notebook". Although the place and time are completely different. But - on the mood of the book. In my view, the second part, which tells about the litigation - protracted. At times it becomes boring to read, especially when…

Delightful. The past and present worked well. The wartime sequences were particularly poignant and evocative. The mystery was well sustained.

With some books you get a character driven novel, others the plot. I find with Moyes they compliment each other to bring a rich story to the reader. My third book by her: Ship of Brides, Me Before You and this title. Loved all three.

Have now read two books by Jo Jo Moyes and I want to read more. Both stories were easy to read and involved interesting characters.

A story in two parts that revolves around a painting. 1. In the past: A German officer admires a painting in a French house where he and other officers take their meals. 2. In the present: A lawyer accidentally locates a missing …

A mystery whose details I did not see coming; a history I was unaware of -- WW I had Nazi occupation that was brutal and "resistant camps" -- and a story of a painting and the many homes in which it hung. This was a very satisfying book.

The first part of the book was compelling and well written. When the story jumps to the present, the characters were unrealistic, unlikable and it was poorly written and needed to be edited!
