Wonderful book for those who want to know about historical history of the period, women and midwifery. I could hardly put the book down.

If you really want to know what life was like for the average person in the late 18th, early 19th centuries, this book is riviting. From a few laconic diary entries Ulrich deduces such a rich contextual history. I couldn't put it down.
