Divergent was an interesting and enjoyable book. Though I didn't find it quite as exciting as I was expecting, it was definitely worth every minute of my time. Tris Prior's journey into becoming Dauntless is something action-packed and amazing, without a single dull moment. After leaving her the Abnegation “faction” to join the Dauntless, Tris is thrown in a whirlwind of people, experiences and emotion as she trains to become fearless. She meets several supportive fiends, including Four, her love interest throughout the novel. However, several people are seen to be against her, and threaten her life. Tris learns to make good decisions and faces her fears.
At times, the book seemed rushed and not as detailed as I would have liked, especially in some of the more emotional scenes; ones where you'd typically expect some more feeling to a book. The fight scenes, the attacks, the drama; it all seemed to pass briefly without much detail given to assist the reader with visualization or imagery. The plotline, in my opinion, was also slightly predictable. So many other YA novels seem to have a similar theme; a broken dystopian society with a soft-spoken hero who overcomes their shyness and becomes the most important person in the world. There’s nothing wrong with this theme, of course. However, it is so overused in previous novels that I am able to predict the outcome and turn of events long before they have actually occurred. Perhaps if Roth added more emotion or imagery to her writing, it would stand out more from the rest. All in all, this was a decent book that had lots of plot twists and action. The characters were brave and heroic, and great role models for teens. I’d recommend this book to any 13-17 year olds who enjoy and dystopian-style books with lots of action.

Divergent is a very well written story with an amazing plot and interesting story line. But it would not be my first recommendation for anyone under 13. The story itself is awesome, but extra little things in the book ruin the good parts.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book!! I love how the author puts down Tris and Four's relationship, and the story is amazing! :)

This is an amazing book. I really liked how the plot didn't start too fast or too slow. If you like dystopian novels, this is the book for you. I can't wait to read the second book, Insurgent!

This book is so amazing! One of the best books I've ever read. I read this after the Hunger Game series, and I was not disappointed. Divergent keeps you on your toes, and has lots of surprises throughout the book. This is a great book for teens, young adults and adults. There's romance, action, mystery - all you would want in a great book.

I absolutely LOVE this series. My only problem is that I felt like the setting was a bit too similar to that of The Hunger Games. But even so, this was one of the best books I've ever read, and I absolutely adored it!

Frightening or Intense Scenes: has something called "fear simulations" in which the Dauntless have to face their darkest fears. May be quite frightening for some people.

Violence: Yes, of course Divergent would have violence. It's like The Hunger Games that way. For example, getting stab in the eye with a butterknife, fighting each other as a test, and being under simulation and killing off all the people of one faction. That's alot already.

No words can describe divergent like the actual book so go read it now!

But before she went there her test to see what group she belongs to goes haywire and gives her 3 instead of one test results. Meaning she is Divergent. But she doesn't really know what it means. All she knows is it is not safe to be one. so she has to keep it a secret and long as she can.

Summaries below are accurate- The book is a dystopian, and therefore overhyped, just like Hunger Games. This book is horrible.

In this dystopian society, in the future Chicago, those that reach the age of 16 are forced to pick their life. They must decide where they belong: Abnegation, Erudite, Candor, Dauntless or Amity. Each faction has a goal. For example, the Abnegation believe that people are too selfish, therefore they show selflessness. Once they turn 16, they take a test to help them decide which faction is best for them. This story follows the life of a teenage girl, Beatrice Prior. When she takes the test, she learn that she is part of a rare group, she is Divergent. This means that she didn't fit into a specific group.
Through this story, it shows Tris' problems, decisions and her survival. Can she survive? Can she keep her divergence a secret? Will those that are hunting her find her?

Beatrice Prior and all other sixteen year olds in the future Chicago must make the most significant decision of their lives. They will decide to be Abnegation, Erudite, Candor, Dauntless, or Amity. To help them with this decision, an aptitude test creates a simulation to find what faction the teenagers belong in. This test shows that Beatrice does not just show traits of one faction, but instead shows three. This makes her Divergent.
This novel shows Tris's struggle to survive in a world that wants to kill her and every other Divergent. Divergents are hunted down and killed by the will of a certain one faction that has a plan to control the others. The only flaw in their control are the Divergents, who "cannot be controlled". Tris must save not only herself, but friends and family from their impeding deaths.

It was a good book. Kept me wanting to read more. Can't wait for the rest of the movies to come out.

This is the first book in the "Divergent" series. Beatrice Prior lives in a dystopian future Chicago where society is divided into 5 different factions based on the results of an aptitude test. This test is taken by every member of the city at age 16. The next day at the Choosing Ceremony, they can pick any faction to spend the rest of their life with, regardless of the test results. Beatrice Prior gets 3 results, which makes her Divergent. Abnegation, which she was born into because both her parents were Abnegation, Erudite and Dauntless. She picks Dauntless at the ceremony. Read the book to find out what happens next ;)
