Unlike some of the other commentators, I found the first two really chatty and boring too, so this just seemed like a continuation of those films. It could've been called "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love" if that title weren't taken. The key word here it talk. Man, they do not shut up, about politics, family, work, books and, of course, relationships. Maybe it would've worked with different actors, as I find both leads irritating. I like director Richrard Linklate, but this bored me to tears. The Greek setting it pretty though. Nominated for best screenplay (2014) somehow.

I hated the first film, skipped the second and foolishly watched the third. Wooden characters and boring dialogue. What a waste of time!!!

This movie was a huge disappointment after the first two. I think the first movie was my fav. I expected alot more romance finally to happen, I think the writers really failed to hit the mark. I give it 2 thumbs down and no stars. All the arguing was really a turn off.

This movie was a waste of time!

It's surprising that those who've watched the first 2 movies have given this one such low ratings. If you've paid attention, you'd know that Jesse and Celine had to go through this test of their relationship in order for it to survive long-term. There is another film to be released in the next 9 year installment by Hawke and Delpy and I suspect there will be more tough issues the couple will face. That's just life. This series has always focused on the CONVERSATIONS between Jesse and Celine. Viewers fell in love with the characters, because they were so charming and endearing. Now that they are middle-aged and going through the trials of daily life, their characters have evolved just as the actors have who play their roles. The viewer must also evolve in order to fully appreciate this film. Jesse and Celine are not 23 anymore and the viewer needs to stop expecting them to be in order to fully appreciate Before Midnight.

Nine years on, a divorce, a marriage, twins, and life is complicated for Jesse and Celine. Mesmerizing.

After loving the first two (and being the same age w/similar life events so not suffering from any adolescence-caused naivety/boredom by a couple decades' shot), two words struck me over and over watching this... 1) TEDIOUS and 2) VAPID. Great films DO exist where the characters are meandering and where little but dialogue-even strained dialogue as they find themselves having-is there to carry a story. Were it not in a beautiful place, it would have NO worth apart from the younger couple being a bit of a refreshing break from Hawke&Delpy and the brief but brilliant(half-star-rating-improving) scene in the hotel&outside at its restaurant... Personally, I do not watch films to hear conversations legitimately less interesting than talking about laundry. NONE of it was insightful and they both look ragged and washed out INDIVIDUALLY-like he's been in and out of rehab for hard drugs for a decade and she's simply lost both her charm and any acting chops that perhaps were never even there. The only thing I found cute or funny was a moment of "bimbo" talk...the problem is that everything they're discussing is far nearer to what couples in their late 20s go through&as a result it all feels fake and poorly cast, a bit like if you cast Clint Eastwood as a traditional father to a toddler and fifth grader without it being odd ie him trying to pull off 32. They say their ages but act 28. Nothing meshes. It is tired, tedious and annoying. Don't waste those two hours. There are SO SO MANY better films out there. It should simply have never been produced, not with THIS script. I can't believe Linklater was at all involved let alone in charge-maybe HE needed to be in serious rehab when this was being storyboarded. Such a fabulous producer-I can only guess money trouble equalled pressure for a quick sale. Sad.

WOW! Simply a brilliant film with some of the best dialogue written for the screen. I really liked the first two "Before" series movies but this one is all grown up. It can be tough to watch at times but it is brilliantly written & exceptionally acted. This is one of those rare works of genius that demonstrates the power of the art form. FANTASTIC!

I can always watch the first and second movie again. But not this one; one time is enough! Personally, I don't think "fighting" is romance!!
