I was not aware of the history of this story/case. Not as well developed as it could have been as there appear to be a disconnect somewhere in the story line. It was not clear who the PI was working for or why. Colin Firth was miscast for sure - a Brit with a southern drawl? Reese Whitherspoon was good as the distraught mother.

I had read the book before seeing the movie. The movie is quite factual, although it leaves out a great deal of the information discovered about the background of one of the father's, which I thought was very important to the whole case and to showing how the police and prosecutors were so very biased and simply totally mishandled this case.

Very flat movie. None of the angst or fear or rage of the mother or PI was sigificantly conveyed. Felt like a TV movie of the week, with the typical Hollywood quick wrap it all up in a tidy ending.

Atmospheric melodrama. The balance of creative licence versus historical accuracy wavers back and forth.
