Beginning basket makers and those with no experience are welcome and encouraged to sign up for this one-day basketry workshop. During the workshop, students will make one basket while learning foundational weaving techniques. These techniques can be applied to a myriad of other weaving materials, including metal wire.
The first steps in this basket workshop start with a demonstration of how to establish the interwoven basket base from the beginning. Students will follow and be guided step by step while creating their basket.
These baskets are made from dyed round reed employing over/under and twining techniques. Ample hands-on attention will be given to each student during the weaving process.
All tools are provided for use during the workshop. The weaving material round reed has been dyed and prepared prior to the workshop. Students will have a multitude of colors to choose from. A handout will be provided for students to keep. It contains the materials punch list for this project, a supplier list of where to purchase materials and basketry tools, and basketry guild information.
Please note that hand strength is required for basket making.
