Are you 55+ and looking for something to do this summer with your friends? Hoping to make a new friend?

Join us on a library adventure to Alcatraz Island! We'll be taking a ferry to the infamous island to explore on a self-guided tour learning its layered history. Spend the day visiting and touring the many exhibits on the island! Self-guided audio players are included. Bring your own lunch, or purchase from the food service on the Alcatraz City Cruises ferries during your arrival and return from Alcatraz. Please note that Atherton patrons will need transportation to the Foster City Library to meet for the bus. We will be traveling with patrons from Foster City Library. 

Bus departs from Foster City Library Library at 9:00 AM and will return at 4:30 PM. Times are approximate and subject to change.

Space is limited and registration is required. Please keep in mind there are two different ways to register, so please choose one of the methods.

• Online registration will start on Wednesday, May 6 at 9:00 AM 
• In-person registration will start on Wednesday, May 6 at 10:00 AM 

Schedule of the Day:

• 8:45 AM: Meet bus at the Foster City Library
• 9:00 AM: Leave Foster City Library and head to Alcatraz City Cruises ferry
• 10:35 AM: Ferry departs for Alcatraz
  
• 11:00 AM - 2:45 PM: Explore Alcatraz
• 2:45 - 3:00 PM: Regroup at ferry terminal
• 3:10 PM: Dedicated group ferry departs for San Francisco
• 3:25 PM: Board bus
• 4:30 PM: Arrive at Foster City Library

Please note, the roads on Alcatraz are steep, and your exploration can include stairways and gravel walkways. Wear comfortable walking shoes with grip-type soles. Sandals, leather-soled shoes, high heels, and open-toe shoes are not recommended. Please reach out to atherton@smcl.org if you have any accessibility questions or concerns.
