An absolute, total disappointment. This is one of the worst movies I have ever partially seen in my entire life. I could only make it to about 20 minutes and gave up to do something more productive like clean my bathroom. Maybe if I had the mind of a seven-year-old kid, it would be possible to go further. Sadly, I ordered this movie after reading that it was a favorite of the Republican senator from Texas, Ted Cruz. Now I understand why the United States Senate is such a pathetic and useless institution.
It doesn't get much better than this. Contender for most entertaining movie of all time. Top of the line work from Rob Reiner.
This is one of my MOST favorite movie of all time. I have watched it many times. Highly recommended!
why isn't fred savage mentioned? He is the cute little boy that the grandfather is reading to.
Not so much a satire or takeoff on fairy tales, as a revisionist fairy tale. The plot is boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy finds girl. Great swashbuckling and of course, R.O.U.S. Special mention for the musical score by Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler. Check it out, and don't get into a battle of wits with a Sicilian when death is on the line! Inconceivable!
Love this movie. It was a favorite when I was a kid and still is as an adult. My kids liked it too which was a shock. Considering they think anything in 80’s is dinosaur days lol.
Watched it before years back and took it out again not recognizing that I saw the movie before. The first 1 minute of the movie I remembered it but still continued to watch it as it was a decent movie. It is more geared towards children then adults but all ages could enjoy the movie.
An action packed movie full of suspense, romance, and laughs.
I wish that I could forget about the movie so that I could watch it again for the first time because it was SO amassing!
The epitome of fairy-tale camp; silly, funny, well paced, with surprising plot changes and always entertaining.
This is the story of a young farm boy who gets split apart from his true love. He must overcome many obstacles on his quest to be reunited with this girl. I very much enjoyed this movie. This movie takes you on a huge adventure and is full of different events. You overtime learn more about the characters and watch them develop into better people. There’s great connection between the cast and you get to watch their character connect with one another. There’s also a lot of funny humor in this movie and entertains you while leaving you on the edge of your seat. Overall great romantic movie and fun to watch with family. 4/5 stars @EffyStonem of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board.
I watch this as often as I wish.
It will always be a timeless film and I will always enjoy watching it.
Cary Elwes is just unforgettable in his performance as the handsome, charming Westley.
The beautiful buttercup played by Robin Wright was his match and they had a beautiful, genuine romance.
Wonderfully sweet and hilarious story that both pays homage and takes the mickey out of fairytales, The Princess Bride is without fail the best book to screen adaptation I've ever seen.
"As you wish" is that not the best declaration of love and devotion. The movie has plenty of these gems sprinkled throughout and you end up feeling very happy at the end.
This is a film for kids, a very simplistic good vs evil fairytale with swords and blood, people die but if they are the Good Guys they somehow come back to life. I enjoyed seeing Andre the Giant, a French Canadian wrestler, in an acting role.
There's a thin comedic line between endearingly goofy and farce. The Princess Bride director, writers, and actors tip-toed right up to the chasm of certain disaster, and yet somehow pulled it off. Miraculous.
This is a film that seems to have something for everyone: comedy, drama, romance, adventure. With fast-paced action and storytelling, time flies by (and gives lots of opportunity for re-watching). If you enjoy the film, make sure to check the book by William Goldman - not S. Morgenstern.
This was and still is one of
my children and grandchildren's
This is a mishmash of adventure/action, romance, and comedy. A very cool movie for all ages. The wrestler André the Giant (R.I.P) as Fezzik, is charismatic and funny, even though he is a henchmen. Mandy Patinkin (Homeland, Criminal Minds, Dead Like Me) is great too, and has excellent comedic timing, such as with one repeated line throughout the film, "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."
Based on the book by William Goldman, the 2007 movie The Princess Bride is interesting... I can understand the nostalgic feeling that some may have when watching this movie, but having never even heard of the book, I watched this movie with no expectations. The story follows Princess Buttercup, engaged to a Prince, though still in love with her deceased Westly a simple Farm boy and her "true love". When Buttercup gets kidnaped before the wedding, she finds herself saved by a mysterious black hooded man. My biggest problem with this movie was that it doesn't seem to know what it is. A cheesy comedy or a forced romance? There are so many character side plots with unnecessary scenes, stiff acting and out of place cuts, I didn't know if I was supposed to laugh or cry. Even the supposed romance seemed one sided. How is Farm boy Westly making all the sacrifices for Buttercup "true love"? 2 Stars
