One of the first picture books written for children and still a perfect read-aloud after more than 90 years. It is a folktale style story of an old woman who wants a cat. Her husband can't decide which one to choose so he brings home Million of Cats! It's very funny, with a warm ending, and one of my favorite stories to tell. Simple but effective illustrations.

My kids looooooved the lyrical rhythm of this book, and often will say the repeated phrase of "hundreds of ___, thousands of ___, millions and billions and trillions of ___" filling in whatever objects they see a lot of. The story is a bit brutal, but my kids weren't upset at the prospect of all the cats killing each other (possibly because we didn't see the fight and there was no disturbing bloody aftermath. I cannot believe this book is over 90 years old! I didn't mind reading this one again and again and again: hundreds of times, thousands of times, millions and billions and trillions of times. LOL.

I call BS!
Even as a kid I saw huge plot hole of no bodies remaining from cat fight.
I more expected old couple permanently traumatized of millions of dead cat bodies.

A great folktale, and it aged so well! Can you imagine, this book will be 90 years old in 2018... I simply advise though, that you read it yourself before reading it to a child, as you do have a big fight between the cats in there and they actually murder one another. Carnage. But still, a funny folktale with repetitive rhymes.

Millions of Cats by Wanda Gag is about a dude whose wife wants a cat, and instead of getting her 1 cat her brings her 1 million cats like he was Dr. Evil or something. She's like NOOOPE. I wanted one cat bubba, not 1 million. Figure it out. He challenges the cats to decide which is prettiest. Furrocious fighting breaks out, and ..... read the book!

Too many cats.

This is overall, a fun book. However, I took exception to one sentance about cats eating each-other up. It's not graphic, or gorey or gross. It's just unsettling.

Excellent introduction to very large numbers for young children. Always a favorite.

This book, or more precisely the hardback copy I had as a child, has had a HUGE influence on my life. It is the reason I once had 24 cats. That experience prompted me to develop the axiom: “Never have more cats than humans in a household!” Now we have 2 ½ cats (one is semi-feral and never comes in the house). I cannot imagine life without cats. LOL Cats just does not compare.
