Anna and Ben, the two children of Jackie and Luke, have to cope with the fact that their parents divorced and that there is a new woman in their father's life: Isabel, a successful photographer. She does her best to treat the kids in a way that makes them still feel at home when being with their dad, but also loves her work and does not plan to give it up. But Jackie, a full-time-mother, regards Isabel's efforts as offensively insufficient. She can't understand that work can be important to her as well as the kids. The conflict between them is deepened by the sudden diagnose of cancer, which might may be deadly for Jackie. They all have to learn a little in order to grow together.

I should have known better that to venture into a film staring Roberts and Sarandon. It is a chick flick with lots of tear jerking drama attached. If that appeals to you, this might be one to check out.

A very slowly paced family drama about a family recomposing, STEPMOM is not what I expected... and unfortunately, I don't mean that in a good way. That's not to say it was a bad film, but it was two things: one, not very memorable or entertaining, even in the broadest tearjerker-inclusive sense of the word 'entertainment'; and, two, it felt as if the filmmakers weren't even sure what its message was, jumping from one angle to the other. At certain points, it feels triumphant, the merging of two distinct parental styles, two wives learning to embrace each other in spite of the turbulence, and then it returns back to hostility, erasing all of its previous growth. If it was supposed to be a slice of life, it didn't resonate that way; it felt more confused and ambiguous, a question unanswered. If you're a big fan of this kind of thing, I'm sure it's right up your alley. For me? Once is enough.

This tear jerker has me crying every time I watch it. If you're in the mood for a good cry this is the movie for you!
