One of the best from Woody Allen.

There have been a few Woody Allen movies on the tube recently, and not being that interesting themselves, I researched what people think is a great work of his, and chose to watch this one.
After having viewed Manhattan, I do have to say OMG if Woody has the reputation of an "intellectual", I feel sorry for America! Jokes are terrible like " I've never had a relationship last longer than Hitler and Eva Braun's.." ba dum da ts. On par with " Take my wife, please."... If Woody is an "intellectual", his doctorate was obtained through nightly visits to the local adult book store! Movie contains continual references to all sexual subjects, ideas, people were aware of in 1979. .(example: Diane Keaton has her dog, Woody turns this into an implication of bestiality.....) and Woody cannot stop either directly stating or implying how great he is in bed. I counted at least 6 times he did that in this movie ....Slow clap.
Now the movie does have good cinematography, and fine music, and is better than perhaps a modern braindead film, but nevertheless I see no point in watching this film. It's boring and non funny, and yeah, I understand where he's going with a joke, but his jokes continually come across as sophomoric drivel. Avoid.

I actually couldn't even finish watching it... Poorly paced; not particularly funny; just not really worth watching.

This is a great film. Best scene is when he recalls why life is worth living: Groucho Marx, and Willie Mays, and the second movement of the Jupiter Symphony, and Louie Armstrong’s recording of “Potato Head Blues,” Swedish movies, naturally, “Sentimental Education” by Flaubert, Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, those incredible apples and pears by Cézanne, the crabs at Sam Wo’s, Tracy’s face …

Lovely scenery, decent soundtrack but not much else going for it. Slightly disturbing to see a 42 year old Woody Allen sleeping with a 17 year old girl.
