Pruning and Training --- by --- Christopher Brickell and David Joyce. It’s spring. And a young man’s fancy turns to … yes, yes, yes: pruning. But maybe he should have given this some thought a coluple of months earlier; or maybe last summer. This book is jammed with over 300 pages of where to prune, when to prune, how to prune. And a whole bunch of other prunes. Some think pruning is the pits (ok, ok. --- no more bad puns) but there are many reasons for doing it: to encourage or discourage fruiting; to foster a strong tree or to shape a tree. Much of the book is encyclopaedic in its layout; there are many colour photographs as well as many other illustrations. Not the sort of book you’re likely to read in its entirety but one I’m glad the library had on its shelves.
