I found this book quite dated. I had not previously read any Pearl Buck and this might not have been the best one to start.
Peony's love for her master's son is so stereotypical, if reads more like a harlequin romance in an exotic setting. I was hoping for a better platform to learn about a very interesting period in Jewish and Chinese history.
