Holly Golightly is an eccentric New York City playgirl determined to marry a Brazilian millionaire. Her next-door neighbor, a writer, is "sponsored" by a wealthy patroness. Guessing who's the right man for Holly is easy; seeing just how romance blossoms is one of the enduring delights of the film.

VERY GOOD 1961 romantic comedy (which I was too young to 'understand' when it came out).
Fine performances by Hepburn and Peppard. Excellent movie music by Hank Mancini (including lots of 'Moon River') - and whack bits by Mickey Rooney as Mr. Yoniushi.

I saw this movie as a child, and I had a vaguely nice feeling about it and about Audrey Hepburn. It does not stand up when viewed again as an adult. The demeaning and racist portrayal of Holly Golightly's upstairs neighbour disgusted me and spoiled the whole experience. This makes me realize how much I must have been used to racist stereotypes not to even have noticed them when I first saw the movie. No one else seems to mention the racism, so it also tells me that others are fine with stereotypical depictions of other races. All in all, shallow and sad. I read the original story by Truman Capote after another viewer recommended it over the movie. It is just as shallow.

Breakfast At Tiffany’s is known as one of the most iconic, glamorous, and fashionable movies pretty much ever. Audrey Hepburn is best known for her fabulous performance as Holly Golightly, the wild, beautiful, and very strange protagonist of this film. There are parts of this film that I really enjoyed, such as Holly’s stylish outfits, and the song that she sings called “Moon River,” which Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer wrote and composed for this film. Although there definitely were some aspects that really weren’t entertaining or enjoyable, therefore I would rate this film 3.5/5 stars.

An iconic Audrey Hepburn movie. It can be funny and the characters are interesting. I like Hepburn's free spirited character and she does a good job portraying that. Good movie.

An unusual love story, glamorous, sophisticated, with more than a touch of the bizarre.

They changed the best part: the ending to a sweet, sugary Hollywood ending. Read the book instead.

It's always fascinated me that author Capote railed against the casting of Audrey Hepburn for the role of Holly Golightly (love that name!) as she is masterful. It's not for nothing that "Breakfast at Tiffany's," whatever its origins, has become Hepburn's signature film. She perfectly captures the poignant contradictions of Holly, a charming, breezy, worldly-wise woman determined to make her own way in the world who is also a frightened child looking for love. George Peppard is just fine as the struggling writer who meets, helps, loves her. Martin Balsam, a wonderful character actor of the time, is amusing as a drunken yet discerning New York sophisticate. And Mickey Rooney... sigh. Well, try to place his irritating Japanese stereotyping within the context of the times.
Henry Mancini's lovely, melancholic score is a major plus, setting the romantic tone.

Holly Golightly: "I'll tell you one thing, Fred, darling... I'd marry you for your money in a minute. Would you marry me for my money?" Paul Varjak: "In a minute." Holly Golightly: "I guess it's pretty lucky neither of us is rich, huh?" Paul Varjak: "Yeah."
