I'd call this respectable comedic entertainment. Based on 'Bedtime Story' (1964) starring Marlon Brando, David Niven and Shirley Jones. Another remake is 2019's 'The Hustle'. It looks like the school/regional folk are using a musical version.
Director Frank Oz' credits are loaded with Muppet projects; 'Stepford Wives' is listed as well.
Con men of late seem unlikely hooks for comedy, but these are designated scoundrels and as such pretty safe characters for mass entertainment.
The two are as good foils for each other as 'The Odd Couple' were. Steve Martin's is doing physical comedy or otherwise trademark broad stuff.
Made me laugh a number of times. Without Michael Caine's presence though, I would have more lamented taking the time for this now.
I'd say dated. Don't know what 2019's 'The Hustle' managed.

I love this classic it is so funny with 2 con artist who are male able to live a great lifestyle totally. Michael Caine and Steve Martin is great together and I still enjoy it even today. I liked how they were conned in the end by a woman ahh women do it best I must say.

I liked this DVD. It is good for all ages. This hysterical comedy is sophisticated and suave with a good dash of mischief, and features a delightfully jazzy score. Lawrence Jameson makes his lavish living by talking rich ladies out of their money. Freddy Benson more humbly swindles women by waking their compassion with fabricated stories about his grandmother's failing health. After meeting in the lobby of an opulent hotel, they attempt to work together, only to find that this small French town isn't big enough for the two of them. They agree on a settlement: the first one to extract $50,000 from a young female target, heiress, Christine Colgate, wins, and the other must leave town. A hilarious battle of cons ensues that will keep audiences laughing, humming and guessing to the end.

Just a laugh a minute from start to finish. Steve Martin is will shock you with the things he thinks up. He is wild and crazy, if you know what I mean. Michael Caine is along to set up the humor for Martin, but he has his laughs as well. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a Five Star Comedy Classic and one that I will watch many times over!

A WHOLE LOT OF LAUGHTER & Very charming funny film.
Con-artists prying on the gullible does not always make the gullible victim.
SOMETIMES,,, THE GOOD GUYS GET TO WIN!!!
