When I first started reading this book, I was expecting a boring classic, but it was very entertaining and amusing. I thought it was strange that Mrs. Brown made Velvet pay her entry in 100 gold sovereigns, but I like the shell box with the little cut out horses in it, that was a nice detail.

This was a girl to whom things happened, for in a year she had become an heiress, got a horse for a shilling and won the Grand National.
