Robert Fagles is a highly celebrated poet and translator of ancient texts. He makes Virgil's wondrous epic feel utterly relevant and modern with this stunning treatment. It is the tale of Aeneas, who flees the smoldering ashes of Troy to found a new civilization -- Rome.

The work was unevenly narrated, started out rather flat and tedious but by book three (on disc three) the narrator gets into stride and puts some effort to making voices for the characters, but ultimately doesn't do it very well. The work itself sounded too much like prose. The larger structure of the work, the first six like the Odyssey and the last six like the Iliad, is much more easily discernible in this audio format. What I liked most is that each book was accorded its own disc so that one's listening was not interrupted by having to switch discs.
