Collects an array of disheartening truths and unhappy observations drawn from the author's work, including "siblings who claim to get along all the time are most definitely hiding something."

HARPERCOLL

Lemony Snicket's work is filled with bitter truths, like: 'It is always cruel to laugh at people, of course, although sometimes if they are wearing an ugly hat it is hard to control yourself.' Or: 'It is very easy to say that the important thing is to try your best, but if you are in real trouble the most important thing is not trying your best, but getting to safety.'

For all of life's ups and downs, its celebrations and its sorrows, here is a book to commemorate it all – especially for those not fully soothed by chicken soup. Witty and irreverent, Horseradish is a book with universal appeal, a delightful vehicle to introduce Snicket's uproariously unhappy observations to a crowd not yet familiar with the Baudelaires' misadventures.

Lemony Snicket is one of the funniest authors I've read. His perspectives on life, books, reading, and passports made me laugh. Not a hard read, seeing as the book consists of quotes, one per page. Hilarious!

Good book. Short and witty. The constant use of ironic humor describes the feel of the book

A collection of short texts, sometimes funny, sometimes dark, sometimes poetry. Especially Snicket's sense of humour fascinates me: It can be childish or very dark or just strikingly odd - and sometimes all of these at the same time - and you just wonder how he does that.

Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.

A good library will never be too neat, or too dusty, because somebody will always be in it, taking books off the shelves and staying up late reading them.

Labor Day is a holiday honoring those who work for a living. Laborious Day is a lesser known holiday honoring those who cannot stop talking about their work. p.52

What happens in a certain place can stain your feelings for that location, just as ink can stain a white sheet. You can wash it, and wash it, and still never forget what has transpired, a word which here means 'happened and made everybody sad'.
