This is a 1944 American war film directed by Mervyn LeRoy, based on the 1943 book of the same name written by Captain Ted W. Lawson---a pilot who participated in the raid on April 18, 1942.
Lawson piloted "The Ruptured Duck"---the seventh of 16 B-25s to take off from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet.
Special effects recreate the squadron's low-altitude, hedge-hopping sweep over Japan in this suspenseful saga of the raid.
The subsequent forced landings in China and the perilous trek to safety are captured in this thrilling and awe-inspiring docu-drama.

Buried Film Treasure has been found in "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo". KCLS has four copies and only 2 are currently out. There is only one review here from April 6, 2011 by Madshoemake in which they state "I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!! I could watch again, and again. Thanks for leaving the review Madshoemake. I would add that the story is based on the actual bombing raid on Tokyo in World War II. The raid occurred after the United States suffered significant losses at Pearl Harbor. The raid was planned and led by Lieutenant Colonel James "Jimmy" Doolittle. The actual account comes from Ted Lawson who was a member of the flight crew. The cast is great and led by Spencer Tracy as Lieutenant Colonel James Doolittle. He was a stunt flyer before the war and the mission had to be carried out from an aircraft carrier out at sea. Rounding out the cast is Van Johnson, Robert Mitchum and Robert Walker. The film is enhanced with actual footage of the bombing raid. Films just don't get much better than "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo". If you missed it somehow or haven't seen it in years, you will probably have some feelings of pride at the skill and courage of the Doolittle raiders as they were known. Thanks for reading the above and I would love to see your own comments after you see the film. Enjoy!!
