I read through the whole book but I don't think I'll read more by this author. The plot felt forced and the characters were not well developed and felt somewhat flat. The mystery itself was a weak effort and several chapters of the book felt like they were just added to flesh out the number of pages. The book was readable if you don't expect much, and just want a nice simple mystery, but if you are a fan of real page turners and witty dialogue, this might leave you a bit wanting.

I just read the first in this cozy series, and I have to wonder what took me so long to discover this authors work. As a big fan of the cozy mystery, I think that this series definitely fits. The characters have weaknesses and make mistakes just like real life, not some picture perfect la-la land. The romantic thread is handled well and does not overshadow the mystery.Likeable, characters, good story and a big cat named Lumpkin for comic relief.

I'd read a later book in this series already. It was good to read this first book in the series so I have more background for the ongoing story. I like Maine and I like things Scottish, including bagpipe music. These are what drew me to the series. I am enjoying it.

What great fun to find another wonderful good, yes old fashioned murder mystery. Very little use of blood no guts, gore or excessive use of profanity. I'll keep reading this series.

This was a fast read and plot moved along nicely. Will try reading more by this author.
