This pocket (5x8") travel guide to the San Francisco Bay area describes 44 hikes, illustrated with b&w photos and maps. Each entry includes directions to the trailhead, a route map and elevation profile, a description of the trail, and directions for hiking the trial, plus margin facts and history, notes on best seasons to use the trail, and information and photos of landmarks along the way. The book also includes a chart showing each hike's features such as length, difficulty rating, bike and dog access, and type of terrain. Appendices list top-rated trails in each of the four regions covered, contacts for governing agencies and outfitters, and web sites and books. An annotated list of maps is grouped by region.
