With summer just weeks away, Chief of Police Jesse Stone is pretty tense--and not just because Paradise, MA, is gearing up for the tourists. Stone finds himself dealing with car thefts, then murder, then someone who's come to town to remind him of his not-so-happy past as an L.A. cop. Fans mourning Parker's death will be happy to see that Brandman, who has written and produced numerous TV movies based on Parker's novels, has picked up where the best-selling author left off.

After listening to a couple long audiobooks (14 discs each) thought it was time for something a little shorter. This story fit the bill!! Not real exciting, but a good story nonetheless. Really liked the fact that they portrayed the small town chief police as a caring individual who really influenced the lives of many of the town's residents. If you're looking for a quick read, this is a good one!! 7 out of 10 for me.

Robert Parker didn't write this story, and it shows. This character does things that Parker's character would never do (for example, adopt a cat), and I don't think that the story is structured as well. For example, a major story-line starts quite late into the book, which I don't think Parker would have done.

There is nothing wrong with cats, of course, but Parker's characters always had dogs. So it's just not right!!

I found this novel tight, interesting and a fun read. I think it is well worth your time. Since there is a contrasting opinion, judge for yourself and let fellow readers know. 9 of 10 stars
