Jayne and Laura are about to take on the first man they just might not be able to handle; their father Joe. Dutiful daughters returning to the house they grew up in, Jayne and Laura are forced to take a closer look at their own not-so-perfect lives. Laura suspects that Joe needs full-time care, but Jayne refuses to believe that their father's condition is serious. Joe still signs and plays the blues on his prized guitar, and the lively widower even has a new 'ladyfriend.'

Well...it held my interest - but not in a good way. Sisters confront family drama.. I would've had to find a way to care about them to even consider caring about their father. I could not.
I'm embarrassed to say I watched thru to the end [really, I do'nt normally gawk at others' drunken drug induced family brawls]
The ending must've been tacked back on by someone who hadn't paid attention during the first 2/3rds of the film.

Had I known what awaited me a mere 13 minutes into this movie, I would have left it in the library, at least I knew to take the movie out. Suffice it to say, I wasn't looking forward to seeing these two girls grappling with the task of cleaning Rip Torn's dookie-incrusted behind and hopefully neither will you! Too graphic, too crass; I couldn't imagine this movie improving and heartily confer a rare "No-Star" rating...NEXT!

A lot of great talent, but only some good acting ,.. and a scattered script. I love Parker Posey, and she seems to me to carry the energy forward,.. but going where? Regular pot smoking is used as normal 'adult' behaviour, but without any story enhancing value or decernable highs. Barken plays a crack-whore,.. not exactly lite comedy!
An almost random, but unnamed, sex-durg becomes a major plot 'climax' device. Its not "zany", or funny,.. its just ...??

I usually love Parker Posey, but this this movie made her seem spaced out and like she was drugged.

Skit It - Happy Tears (2009) 95 min. The writers took a serious subject matter (the care of a parent) and turned it into a mess of obscure references, hallucinogenic episodes, and just plain boredom. Despite the appearances of Parker Posey and Demi Moore, this film is better left on the shelf. Ugh.

It’s an unusual and quirky film, but its eccentricity doesn't equate to satisfying drama, which it is billed as. I'm actually mixed on the film. It's not an unlikable film (I rated it as good), but it takes off into some rather bizarre directions, a few of them surreal in nature. I kind of enjoyed the humour more than the drama.

A film of mixed messages, unsure of whether you're supposed to feel family-oriented at the end or just utterly destroyed by the idea.

The point of this film is open to a vast range of interpretations. For a relatively low-budget indie film, it's okay, with Demi Moore as the responsible sister Laura being, by far, the best part. It's a shame the characters weren't charismatic; if the vapid main character Jayne weren't so vapid and unlikeable, maybe the film wouldn't leave such a bitter (all right, bittersweet) taste in your mouth.

Other: Adults use pot and a sex-drug (?) as if this is normal consumer behaviour. This is NOT for teens & kids.
