When Gary Cooper made this movie with Patricia Neal they were in an off-screen romance.
They had fallen in love with each other while making an earlier movie. In this film, Neal uses Cooper mercilessly and gets away with it because he is so blindly in love with her. It is a movie about real life with the haves and the have-nots and how they all intertwine with one another in the course of their life's dealings. The ending is sobering and reminds one of the old saying: "The Higher they are, the Harder they fall".

Wow! What a great movie. " Movies are not made like they use to be. "Bright Leaf " is a must see drama.

The story, the cast, and screenplay all remind one of "Gone With the Wind". We have a cowboy who goes from rags to riches. He falls in love with the towns richest family daughter. A wonderful story unfolds while showing us all the lessons of wanting only the material things in life. I can't recommend "Bright Leaf" enough!

Gary Cooper we just never thought you had so many great movies up your sleeves. Bright Leaf could be a true story or based on a true story of a tobacco farmer. The cast around Gary Cooper is equally great in Donald Crisp and Patricia Neal. Up until I saw the movie, Bright Leaf had not come to my attention. Now I believe it could be his best movie he ever made. That really is saying a lot. You should check this movie out now!
