"The exasperating Gingerbread Man, famous for leading a host of townsfolk and animals in a wild chase about the countryside, lives at 398.2 on the library shelves. But the Gingerbread Man is not the type of cookie that stays in one place for very long, and one day he just can't help himself. With a leap and a whoosh, he escapes the librarian's grasp, and the chase for the wily Gingerbread Man is on again!"--Dust jacket.

Read to a 6 year old who had a blast reading along. The story is familiar but explores the library in more depth by using the Dewey decimal system. My son didn't know what that was so it was a great opportunity to discuss how it works and why we use it. Another great book by this author!

This story is about the Gingerbread Man who lives at 398.2 in the library. But he decides one day to run away. He runs through the aisles of the library encountering different characters in different sections of the library.

This book would be perfect for reading with a child while sitting at the library. It is a fast paced and interesting story that includes characters from different parts of the library such as a robot from 629.892. I think every school librarian should own a copy of this book. The illustrations are beautiful, colorful and fun.

As good as this book is, I don't think, however, that it would hold up well out of context for smaller children who do not already understand how to use the library's Dewey Decimal system.

Great for introducing the Dewey Decimal System.
