This is just a caution for those who'd take too seriously the Globe & Mail summation cited by "debwalker."
I have yet to read this book, but its author's death has prompted me to peruse what books the OPL has of his. Contrary to that excerpted blurb, this book is said to provide a fair review of the coexistence of Jews and Muslims at least in north Africa--and of the arbitrariness in recent years of the enmity that's been stoked.

Chronicles the rise of Islam through the eyes of Jews living under Muslim domination. Its story of conquest, persecution and discrimination is tempered by complex political histories." Paula Newberg Globe & Mail Jan 1 2011
