This is Lou Reed in his early rock album period, it certainly had a few hits, and was moderately received by the Velvet Underground crowd. We have to remember musically at this period in time we had the likes of Alice Cooper, Bowie, T Rex and others shock rockers, but Lou truly was in a class of his own, and remained that way for the balance of his career. If you enjoy Lou, do check out his catalog, its very eclectic ,he's a man doing his own thing, and did it his whole career.

Courtney Barnett revealed that she listened to this album every day while recording one of her own. This is a classic - not only for the two hits "Perfect Day" and "Walk on the Wild Side" - but for its ties to Bowie and its cohesiveness as an album.

I remember this album when it came out in 1972. Remembering the context of the time, this music was definitely not the norm. The suggestions of sexuality here were not what was spoken and kept silent. It was raw, it was different, it made you think. The Vietnam war was closing, Watergate was around the corner, times were very black and white. Satellite of Love and the others were a subtle challenge that something was changing but no one wanted to talk about it.

1972's Transformer would be the American, gay, glam rocker, Lou Reed's 2nd solo album, following his recent departure from The Velvet Underground.

Even though it was produced by his then-pal, David Bowie (which certainly helped to boost its sales and success), Transformer really only contained one notable song that I'd say was worth remembering. And that one song was "Walk On The Wild Side", which told a very dry and gritty little story about the entourage of misfits and hustlers who hung around with the likes of Andy Warhol.

A real dead-pan singer and songwriter - Lou Reed's Transformer inevitably turned out to be his most successful offering to rock'n'roll in the course of his lengthy music career - A career which carried on for another 40 years, in fact, until his death in 2013 at the age of 71.

I actually took the time to listen to Transformer in all of its entirety, and, believe me, most of it was pretty damn-awful...... For example - (Lyrics excerpt) - "Vicious. You hit me with a flower. You do it every hour. Oh, baby, you're so vicious!" ...... (Spare me!)
