Fascinating BBC look at three areas of American western history. Well worth a look.

Also adds some documented history to our typical storytelling, television and film versions.

A curious documentary from the BBC, looking at three aspects of the history of the American west. While the narrator and archival photographs of the genre are used, and expert commentary is spread throughout, much of the story itself is told through actors and location footage, many of the actors British, playing American. Custer's Last Stand, Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War, and Wyatt Earp and his time in Tombstone are the subjects at hand. Classical actor Toby Stephens captures the reckless arrogance of Custer quite well, while character actor Liam Cunningham perfectly conveys the ruthless dark streak of Wyatt Earp. It's different for a documentary, and yet it works.
