Black Flag is one of the most revered bands in Hardcore Punk Rock. Their catalog is exceptional and spans three classic lineups, all of which continued to expand what Black Flag was all about.
2013 marks the release of a new project where Greg Ginn reformed with Ron Reyes (a.k.a “Chavo Penderast,” its Spanish, don’t look it up, trust me), made famous for their appearance in the “Decline of the Western Civilization” documentary of 1980.
Everything seemed to be in line for a great comeback, however, it was not to be. This record not bad, its worse. . Its generic, uninspired, paint-by-numbers punk rock, and its not worth a listen at all.
Over the years it was learned that this records intent was to lay claim to the copyright of the name Black Flag by Greg Ginn, and frankly, its barely even good for that. Ron Reyes was soon fired, and replaced by Mike Vallely, a pro skateboarder. Reyes went back to his home in Vancouver.
