"A mesmerizing, impressionistic portrait of the iconic actor comprised of intimate moments, film clips from some of his 250 films and his own heart-breaking renditions of American folk songs. Stunningly lensed in color and b/w by Seamus McGarvey, the film explores the actor's enigmatic outlook on his life, his unexploited talents as a musician, and includes candid scenes with David Lynch, Wim Wenders, Sam Shepard, Kris Kristofferson and Debbie Harry. The fragile soul of an actor emerges from the poignant collage" -- Isotope Films.

I like Mr Stanton's work. I didn't care for this documentary.

Firstly, I should say that I really love the acting skill of Harry Dean Stanton. His roles in such films as Repo Man and Cool Hand Luke were great. However, the same cannot be said for this documentary. It appears it was just thrown together quickly, without any real thought to the man and his acting accomplishments. I was very much looking forward to seeing this film, and perhaps hearing some good stories from Harry on his past roles and was very disappointed in the way it was done. Thank goodness I didn't buy this one. If so, it would have wound up at Goodwill.

Harry Dean Stanton was one of America's film treasures. Roger Ebert said of Harry, " any film with Harry Dean Stanton and Emmett Walsh adds to the value of the film".

One reviewer said he appeared to be bored and complained about his smoking, he is a man of his time, and smoking was not taboo for his generation.

Yes, it would have been nice to have Jack N. add a comment, but thats life.

If you appreciate the man, you will value these little insights to his personality. I will miss him.

When Harry Dean Stanton passed away in September, I felt stunned. Stunned due to just recently having seen him perform in Twin Peaks: The Return. Stunned by the enormity and diversity of his career. Stunned that he died of natural causes. Mr. Stanton has left a hole in the acting world that will be sorely missed and difficult to fill. Partly Fiction does a phenomenal job at touching on all aspects of his life on and off the camera in this intimate portrait. He seemed like the loveliest soul... Goodnight, Harry Dean!

Harry Dean Stanton chain smokes, sings the blues and manages to say little in his biopic. Some of his acquaintances show up and Stanton seems bored till he meets up with Kristofferson and shows mild interest. Sadly missing is best friend Jack Nicholson and anyone else that Harry Dean might have cared about. You might enjoy some of his singing but if the subject is not interested in the film, you might not be either.
