stage vs hollywood!
dinosaur vs new-kid-on-the-block?
slick dolly shots (mostly from behind) & continuous camera movements (thru barriers or aerial), but way too repetitive, hence boring!
some pointed dialogs are well written & acted out that clearly out-beats woody allen!
what really matters is the inner self who speaks the loudest & acts the boldest?
cannot deny that this film has brought the extinct "stage films" to new heights.

One of the greatest films of the last decade. Stellar performances, with writing that must have been a joy for the actors to deliver. An absolute tour de force from writer-director Innaritu.

Whenever I need to be reminded that human beings have redeeming qualities, lol, I search out this film. It reminds me that being part of the human race is an enormous gift, which is something that in today's world can be easy to forget. 'Birdman' is imbued with joy from beginning to end.

This is an interesting film that operates on many levels. Great music, great cinematography, great casting and great courage of Keaton to take on this role. The play within the film is based on Raymond Carver's "What We Talk About When We Talk about Love". A very enjoyable experience.

Highly unique, great moviegoing experience. Great performances (Edward Norton stood out to me). Did hit home with some stellar insights but I didn't connect with some of the oddity of the movie, like the appearances of the "alter-ego" Birdman and the ending. The theatre and its surrounding halls and rooftops made for a sleek kind of setting for the film (as well as the city streets). I definitely need to watch it at least another time to digest all of the levels

another film for lovers of film. amazing & very creative. I had to see it twice to catch it all as there is a lot going on, at times quickly, in the present dealing with egos, the movie industry & getting the play produced. but there is the other story/conversations about love and what is love. a great one on all levels.

This movie was outstanding. It is a drama based movie that can be viewed as complex at times, by making the viewer think one thing is happening, yet in the end, you discover the truth of the character. The performance by Michael Keaton is spectacular and shows the depth of his versatile acting.

Alejandro G. Iñarritu’s highly polished film within a play within a film is a study in contradiction. Even as his protagonist provides that too familiar metaphor of the imaginative soul railing against artifice and conformity his film revels in its own gimmickry: a dangerously unstable Thomson may or may not have real superpowers and an ongoing inner dialogue with his feathered alter ego is highlighted by glossy passages of magical realism. The film itself is a vertiginous swirl of steadicam shots cleverly edited to appear as one continuous take even though it spans three days, and a handful of too obvious references to "Phantom of the Opera" and "Macbeth" (a crazed actor screams out the “Sound and Fury” monologue just off of Times Square) drive their points home with theatrical zeal. But this is a film about egos, creativity, and the stage after all which makes Iñarritu’s dramaturgical flourishes not only germane, but indispensable. The fact that it went on to win four Academy Awards is a delicious irony.

What a huge disappointment. We expected it to be good due to all the Oscar nominations, and wins. Was awful from beginning to end. To each their own, but it was not for us.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. I was hopeful since I enjoyed Revenant so much but Birdman is a huge disappointment. Are we supposed to be thrilled with the flying scenes? Yawn. Not recommended at all.

Waste of almost 2 hours of my life! All star cast but very boring and dumb movie. Who came up with this crap plot should be fired. I don't know how anyone could rank this boring crap movie more than 1 star.

Riggan: It's important to me! Alright?...

Sam: Means something to who? You had a career before the third comic book movie, before people began to forget who was inside the bird costume. You're doing a play based on a book that was written 60 years ago, for a thousand rich old white people whose only real concern is gonna be where they go to have their cake and coffee when it's over. And let's face it, Dad, it's not for the sake of art. It's because you want to feel relevant again. ... You're doing this because you're scared to death, like the rest of us, that you don't matter. And you know what? You're right. You don't. It's not important. You're not important. Get used to it.

Pages of quotes in IMDb:

[Riggan snaps fingers, and explosions occur, shooting starts, soldiers get shot, choppers fly and shoot, one gets shot down]

Young Birdman: That's what I'm talking about. Bones rattling! Big, loud, fast! Look at these people, at their eyes... they're sparkling. They love this shit. They love blood. They love action. Not this talky, depressing, philosophical bullshit.
