Governor General's Award-winning author/illustrator Marianne Dubuc packs her newest book with craftsmanship, imagination and wit. "The Bus Ride" chronicles a little girl's fantastic adventures on board a bus, making her way solo to her grandma's house for the first time. She encounters a sleeping sloth, a riotous family of moles and a pickpocket fox, all the while witnessing acts of kindness, courage and tomfoolery.

Dubai writes in a charming, child-like stream of consciousness and includes allusions to fairy tale characters and settings. Her coloured-pencil illustrations reflect the activity on the bus, casting black shadow on its riders when the bus goes through a tunnel and constantly changing characters' positions and expressions. Even the long, narrow size of the book mimics the feel of both the bus and the road it drives upon.

Young readers won’t want this imaginative journey to end. Good thing each perusal reveals a new detail and extends the trip!
