The Phoebe GN series is a must read for kids and adults alike, it is hilarious!
This second installment in the Heavenly Nostrils series was even better than the first. Phoebe enjoys the holidays, gives and receives valentines, attends a unicorn birthday party, tries out for the lead in the class play, rollerskates with Marigold and more. Every day is better with a unicorn.
If I had a daughter in elementary school who liked unicorns I would totally get her this book! But I don't, so I got it myself because I love the art style and it's inspiring me to illustrate my own graphic story. It reminded me of Calvin and Hobbes a little too, although the characters have different personalities (so mainly because of the relationship). It teaches good values like friendship, believing in oneself (the main character gets teased for liking school and being a "nerd" but she just rocks it and studies anyway), and believing in magic. I would recommend this book! (Also, I think it's enjoyable at any age and especially if you have a childlike spirit!)
This 2nd book in the Phoebe and Her Unicorn adventure has some cute, sweet, and funny moments. My only gripe is that the comics are more individual and episodic compared to the solid, continuous story introduced in the first book.
Regardless, it's a fun series, and I think Phoebe is adorable! These comics remind me of a young girl-friendly version of Calvin and Hobbes. =)
