The quantity of the recipes were larger than I thought they would be. I tried a couple that I could decrease and they were good. I wish the author showed the recipe for large and small groups.

Not sure the cost is exactly spot-on in this book as the author tries to cook meals for less than $4/day, BUT the recipes are interesting, particularly for someone new to cooking.

Great cookbook - fast, inexpensive recipes that taste great!


Seven recipes tagged! Great book for adults and teens. Ingredients are everyday items, so not expensive. Was a IACP Cookbook Award Winner! Author recommends free range/organic eggs, which I totally agree with.

While the book delivers on its promise of cheap meals--and is written with a refreshing understanding of the realities of food pricing and helpful tips for buying food in-season, etc.--I mainly appreciated the simplicity of most of the recipes. As someone who is not the world's most adventurous cook, I hate opening up a cookbook to a bunch of delicious-looking recipes that seem way too complicated for me to ever actually prepare; this cookbook, however, features some solid recipes that are pretty simple. For me, that's the main draw of the cookbook, and the reason I found it so helpful.

What a great cookbook! It meets all my cookbook criteria: simple recipes that I might actually make on a weeknight; made from normal ingredients I won't have to go hunting for in specialty stores; beautiful photos that make the food look appealing. I'm returning the library's copy and buying my own.
