***** Great cinematography, directing and acting. As usual, British sentiment appeals - unlike the maudlin American ""gangster" fluff. Great music, too.

This gets a "fair to pretty good" rating from me. (Sam Neill, cast as a bad guy with a Scottish accent?) As always with Brit period pieces the settings, props, costumes are stars in their own right. Plotting is average, action pretty slow, acting is OK
