Let me preface this by saying that Iggy Pop is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, frontman in rock and roll history. The first three Stooges albums and his first two solo albums are among my all time favorites. That said, few major artists have such an uneven and disappointing discography. For better or worse, he's dependent on his collaborators and bandmates. I was stoked to hear that he was collaborating with Josh Homme of Queens of the Age. While the album is one of his best in a while, it's not as heavy or rock focused as you might expect. Homme's bandmate Den Fertita and Arctic Monkey Matt Helders round out the band. "Gardenia," while fairly mellow by Pop and Homme's standard, is the standout track. "Chocolate Drops," is the low point.
Not exactly what I expected when I heard Iggy and Josh Homme were making an album together. Instead of the in-the-red aggression of the Stooges (who Homme has cited as a huge influence), this is much closer to Bowie's Berlin Trilogy. That said, it's a fine album that deserves recognition alongside Pop's better solo material.
I highly recommend this album for anyone who loves Josh homme or for the relation of bands he has been associated with his entire career Kyuss, does anyone remember that band ? QOTSA, EODM- session player or this album featuring Iggy Pop. He is the frontman for this Debut release called Post Pop Depression. My favourite song on the whole thing was a song titled Sunday , German days is reaaly good too. Enjoy Avid listeners
