Add a CommentExcellent & thoroughly enjoyable! Well written (of course, it's SEP afterall!) with dry wit, great dialogue and well-rounded characters -- a snarky lady detective with lock picking skills and a proud, handsome former footballer who hires her to work his casino. At 400 pages, too long for a romance novel but the side stories & strong support characters carry it. I loved it :)
This is the first book I have read by Mrs. Phillips and it will not be the last. I loved the mystery, romance, bickering, butt-kicking, and humor that had me laughing out loud. Piper's dad brought her up showing no emotion and the ability to take care of herself. When Piper's investigation company is asked to help with protecting Cooper Graham, a local retired football hero, all sensibilities go out the window with one exception - falling in love. Great book! Will be going back and start from the beginning of the series to catch up.
This book is wonderful!
A new SEP novel? Always exciting! I really loved the relationship between the hero and heroine in this one and it was as funny as ever. There's something about her newer novels that are missing something or are a little clumsy, compared to her older novels, but I still loved it!
I loved the characters in this book - a retired pro football player looking to move on to his next career and a fledging private investigator looking to establish her business. Lots of action and humor.
Nice continuation of Chicago Stars characters. Not too much mention of minor characters which can muddy up the story of the primary ones. As with Phillips other stories, great depth and growth of primary characters. Unusual, some violence and mystery.
I usually love this author, but at page 217 i put the book down. Her male character is so angry at the female character as she has her own mind, he puts her over her knee and spanks her! She yells at him to stop but he doesn't. I am sorry but this is not entertainment. Of course it ends in sex. Sorry, but nothing sexy in this.
I listened to this book on cd and I loved it so much I went back and listened to the last CD twice!!! This book is about a retired football player and a private eye. Coop now owns a bar and is trying to expand and Piper is a driven private eye hired to follow him. They are both too stubborn for their own good and PIper has an extra helping of doing what's right!! I am new to the Chicago Stars series and I'm going to go back and start the series from the beginning!! I can't wait!! Happy reading!!
After a looongggggg break we finally get another Chicago Stars book. And it was worth the wait! I love when female characters have a strong personality, are funny, and drive the menfolk crazy. This book delivered! The alpha male did not back down from our strong heroine which created a level playing field with lots of competition. LOVED every moment of reading, wish I could have savored it more but I devoured the pages in a short time.
At first I was reluctant to read this book because I've always felt I didn't like her stories. However, since I had no other reading material and there are glowing recommendations from many of the authors I DO enjoy, I gave it a try and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised.
It was a good story and I enjoyed the characters.
I intend to read more of this author's books.
