Teen advocate and trailblazer Jazz Jennings—named one of “The 25 Most Influential Teens” of the year by Time—shares her very public transgender journey, as she inspires people to accept the differences in others while they embrace their own truths.

“[Jazz’s] touching book serves as a rallying cry for understanding and acceptance.”—Bustle

Jazz Jennings is one of the youngest and most prominent voices in the national discussion about gender identity. At the age of five, Jazz transitioned to life as a girl, with the support of her parents. A year later, her parents allowed her to share her incredible journey in her first Barbara Walters interview, aired at a time when the public was much less knowledgeable or accepting of the transgender community. This groundbreaking interview was followed over the years by other high-profile interviews, a documentary, the launch of her YouTube channel, a picture book, and her own reality TV series—I Am Jazz—making her one of the most recognizable activists for transgender teens, children, and adults.

In her remarkable memoir, Jazz reflects on these very public experiences and how they have helped shape the mainstream attitude toward the transgender community. But it hasn’t all been easy. Jazz has faced many challenges, bullying, discrimination, and rejection, yet she perseveres as she educates others about her life as a transgender teen. Through it all, her family has been beside her on this journey, standing together against those who don't understand the true meaning of tolerance and unconditional love. Now Jazz must learn to navigate the physical, social, and emotional upheavals of adolescence—particularly high school—complicated by the unique challenges of being a transgender teen. Making the journey from girl to woman is never easy—especially when you began your life in a boy’s body.

Jazz Jennings from "I am Jazz" shares her experiences as a transgender teen. This book was wonderfully written and offers some insight into her life as a transgender teen. She is honest and completely amazing. It was interesting to find out about the challenges she faced and conquered. Jazz's voice is positive and outgoing and encouraging to all teens.

This was an honest read -- almost too honest. I say that being I liked learned about Jazz's journey, transitioning, growing up, her family's advocacy, and her life in the spotlight. I found I did not need to hear about how embarrassed she was when she farted twice on a "date" with a boy or her first weird make-out sessions. However, I can't fault it too much because what else are you supposed to write a memoir about when you're only sixteen? And for a sixteen year old she has had quite a life so far. It will be awesome to see how she progresses and grows in the next ten, twenty years.

For anybody who is curious about what it means to be transgender, this is the book for you, because it's written by an amazing transgendered teen who is the definition of the word "advocate."
Follow Jazz's story as she tells you about how she grew up in a boy's body but knew from the very beginning she was a girl. Some of her struggles are hard to read because of their unfairness, such as her legal fight to play on the girl's soccer team, her right to use the girl's bathroom, and being teased at school. Fortunately, Jazz has an amazingly supportive family, unlike many other transgender youth, which is why she spends so much of her time advocating for transgender rights.

Funny, conversational, and really engaging. This book is a mix of eye-opening and routine bits about teenage life, with plenty of big picture activism details sprinkled throughout as well. Some of the statistics are heartbreaking, even as Jazz's personal experience is often (though definitely not always) positive. I listened to the audiobook, read by Jazz, and her bubbly enthusiasm and personality shines through in her reading! Highly recommend.
