Exceptionally violent movie as 3 women, caught up in the Civil War, fight to remain alive against Yankee marauders. There's an attempted subplot with the heroine and the less abusive of the two men, but it's an attempt at romance that doesn't make sense. Racism abounds. Recommended for strong female leads but be forewarned this is a survival/horror film, and definitely not family fare.

A really bad movie with a bad script and bad acting. You get it all here.

A couple of scruffy Yankee deserters are out to have their evil way with two young sisters and their more-or-less faithful servant in war-ravaged Georgia. Will those dastardly fellows get their comeuppance from those feisty young ladies? You betcha! In short, an über predictable plot (men are awful, gals need to shoot them) that requires a lot of forbearance from the viewer. There are but two redeeming factors: the lantern-light sequence as our heroines ascend the staircase at the start of the film; and - if you make it that far - Amy Nuttall's cameo as the local barmaid with a heart of gold. Otherwise, à éviter.

There are a few very good scenes, and the overall idea is interesting in our current #MeToo dispensation -- a couple Union Army terrorists/scouts preceding Sherman's march to the sea tangle with two Beaulah Land sisters and their faithful slave at a farm off the beaten track -- but those couple of scenes can't make up for what is basically an exploitation film.

This film offers a glimmer of hope that a critical mass of Americans may advance to the point that, after all these decades, they can finally think about and discuss the Civil War as mature, rational adults. This would be a vast improvement over the simple-minded, dualistic, false narrative that plagues contemporary discourse on the subject. Although it unfortunately appears to play to the ill-founded stereotype that slave ownership was widespread in the antebellum South this film is a brave, yet tenuous step in a positive direction.

Stumbled on it and it sounded interesting and it was a lucky find. Set in the Civil War it's about 3 young women , 2 sisters and their slave left behind in a seen better days mansion down South as the men have all gone off to fight the war. Starts off with a scene of senseless violence by 2 Union soldiers . One of them has an encounter with the feisty sister and decides to hunt her down, ''teach her a lesson''. They arrive in the night terrorizing the 3 women but they have met their match. The movie is truly touching and even 1 of the soldiers is given a touch of humanity--war can suck the decency out of many a soldier. It left me with a sense of how hard the war was even on those once pampered Southernbelles suddenly forced into survival mode and it ends with a beautiful twist as the three women bravely face whatever comes. I watched it over a second time with the commentary on.

The acting was fine but would say this is a chick flick. Very slow and often hard to make out what the women were saying. Thought the ending was a bit odd.

Just violent.

An ordinary civil war drama that began with a horrific scene but immediately turned into a backwoods home invasion story with a long boring setup near the end of the Civil War. BTW, the Sherman March was certainly not a directive to the "bummers" to rape or murder southern civilians, see "Quotes." And the heinous ordeal of the young slave was not at all uncommon, depicted in numerous present and past books and films, not to mention the still widely spread human trafficking trade. Chop off half of the first 40 minutes or so would make it a much better movie in mho.

It's the south during the end of the Civil War during Sherman's March. If you don't know about Sherman's March, it was General Tecumseh Sherman's brainchild that if he took his Union troops across the south burning and raping everything in his path, the war would end faster. It worked, but it devastated an entire country. Sherman's troops are on their way, but two rapists and serial killers are scouting ahead. They come across this small town where two sisters and their black servant are trying to survive. There are two graphic rapes in this film. But they do get even. :) If you like revenge flicks, this one's worth watching. The title of the film references the room where the black servant was taken when she was 8, where the master took slaves to rape them, the keeping room.

At my second farm, there was this one shed we wasn't allowed in. All of the other buildings had their jobs... one for feed... one for tools. There was this one shed we was told never to go in, not to play near it, not to get curious.
She's the nigger. She should do it.
-Like I told you, Louise, we all niggers now.
You know how many battles I fought?
-Don't seem like many, easy as you went down.
When you gonna learn? What don't happen don't matter. You just go on.
There are many kinds of monsters in this world. You never know which one gonna be yours.

Why are you doing this, Moses?
-Oh, me and him are bummers. We, uh... we're sent ahead to forage the land for food and ... deserters and sun-survivors. The whole army is behind... already took Georgia. Uncle Billy's coming, burning down everything in his path. Rest assured, it will be cruel.
(Wikipedia on Sherman's "bummers". )
We can keep it safe.
-Keeping what? It's just walls, Augusta. Ain't nothing safe. Three women coming against a Union army don't mean nothing.
What if we was men instead of women'?
