Academy Awardʼ-nominees Andy Garcia (OCEAN'S ELEVEN FRANCHISE, CITY ISLAND) and Vera Farmiga (THE DEPARTED, TV's BATES MOTEL) shine as George and Edith, two separate parents who fall in love over the course of a single day while playing hooky from their children's college tour. George is an uptight surgeon with a rebellious teenage son. Edith is a free spirit with an overachieving teen daughter. When they meet during an admissions tour with their kids at the small, idyllic Middleton University, they decide to ditch the group and soon discover the only thing better than the college tour, is the detour. Taissa Farmiga (THE BLING RING, TV's AMERICAN HORROR STORY), Nicholas Braun (THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER), and Peter Riegert (TV's DAMAGES) co-star in this story about what can happen on your first day of college - no matter who you are.

Vera Farmiga is a sparkling gem! Wow! She should be in every rom-com going and big, big star. I was so impressed by her positive energy and adorable funny-ways. My husband felt she had a Barbara Streisand quality (from Funny Girl) about her and I agree she made the movie much better than it would have otherwise. The comment below is almost true in my mind. While I agree that there is nothing wrong with lack of sex scenes and the premise is quite acceptable. What I took objection to was the fact that they had to interject raunchy sex (students on campus on a roof in a chair) and a very long drug scene with the leads and two other students. While this movie had great potential, they betrayed their audience with gratuitous junk that really ruined it for us. Although I enjoyed Vera tremendously, I still wish I hadn't wasted the time on it.

Interesting that there are only two kinds of comments on this movie, people either love it or hate it. I belong to the category of the first ones. The other category did not like it because in this movie cars do not explode and blood does not ooze from dead bodies, or a man and a woman do not jump into bed together during the first 5 min. Shame on you guys. This is a wonderfully acted and directed movie about two responsible adults who stayed in their respective unsatisfying marriage despite being charmed by one another. They are spending a delightful afternoon together, when she is bringing him back to life by her playful youth and sense of humor. They both are discovering what life could be like if they had chosen the right, compatible partner. I am not trying to reproach them for their restraint and staying in their marriage because I do not know all the details od their situation. As they spent a delightful day, I spent delightful 2 hours watching their story unfold. Andy Garcia and Vera Farmiga are great here.

Don't even want to analyse this, that's how [GOOD] it was. Be prepared to to hit the pause button frequently, otherwise you'll miss the next thing - with you belly shaking, shoulders hopping, or chest heaving, and as you keep aminities handy to manage all manner of inner responses becoming way to obvious, or perfectly obvious depending on your sensitivies. The acting (?) is that great.
Oh hell, the thought just occured to me: Some liars lie because they don't want to insult your intelligence (unless you are acting intelligent and then they don't care) - but these liars actually want to get caught - so they'll will then feel truly understood. That was a SPOILEER alert, although only about one element. But worse, it's an analysis. However (back on point), on the otherhand, what a complicated world that makes it for folks who just want to do what they feel they came here to do, and to do that with everyone else doing what they feel they came here to do (because being themselves, the diversity lessens the competition as they each find their own very happy niche).
EG & Reality Check: Most(?) liars don't believe in idealists, and some idealists can take forever to understand how often, let alone why, they've been lied to. And they (BOTH) wake up married to the wrong people (because they often attract each other), or maybe just avoiding marraige all their lives.
And then there's liars (or small-time con-artists) who find idealists a source of entertainment more than a means of making a living - but that type has nothing to do with this movie, and so was just a point of contrast - so the reader should not be misled. And then there's keeping things in context with itty-bitty windows to see through - with time as a comodity: HOW does one make one's brain make that work? And work how, and for/toward's what? [Digression in context or just more sacrifice of truth?]

I loved this movie. Released in 2012, it is a true Romantic Comedy. The relationship that Andy Garcia and Vera Farminga create is just so wonderful and full, that I would even consider this for other actors as a 'must watch'. The two leads meet, and, in one day, have a life realization that cannot be ignored. I loved watching them create this relationship and how it plays into the rest of the storyline.
When you watch the cd, make sure you listen to the song at the end. Garcia is not the best vocalist, (he sings), but he wrote the words. I was delighted by this film.

Dreadful - plotting and dialog never rings true - written by either robots, high schoolers or space aliens or some combination of those three.

Loved this movie from beginning to end... Similar to Julie Delpy/Ethane Hawke 'Before Sunrise' & 'Before Sunset' & Juliette Binoche in 'Certified Copy'... Non-romantics need not bother to click the start button...!!!

I liked the plot of this flick initially, but the story was so slow in unfolding, my fast-forward button became my best friend.

Rated 2/10. I found this to be rather unentertaining. A lot of fast-forwarding.

Terrible! Totally predictable and, at the same time, unbelievable.

A great romantic comedy with insight into the relationship one has with your children when they go off to college. Andy Garcia and Vera Famiga are terrific as two parents visiting Middleton College with their son and daughter. The humor does not always hit the mark, but the message of the film makes up for a few bad jokes.
