This was a good movie to watch. It was a more of a family movie, christmas movie, and chick flick all put in one. This movie had an all star cast. I will agree it was a little difficult to follow the storyline. But of course it was a very good movie to watch.

From the comments, obviously not appreciated by many. For me, it was 'magic'. There was so much depth and understanding of emotional pain, and the journey 'back' from the depths of anger and not being able to come to terms with denial and acceptance. Yes, more appealing to women, yet a beautiful and welcome departure from the thrillers. It required one to be open to a bit of 'Peter Pan' imagination. My only 'problem' with this is ~ do I watch it again, or simply leave the 'magic' of the drama suffice? I just loved this one!

A very sensitive movie. Not for the action oriented movie crowd. Helen Merrin gave a great performance. This is a women's movie & for sensitive men.

Gorgeous film... as we digested that some of Will Smith's other films have a similar theme... "I am Legend"/ "7 Pounds"/ "Hancock"... We are fans anyway and it was lovely.

This was one of the best films I've seen in recent years. It should have been nominated for far more awards. Great story.

This movie is a must see for anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one. Actor Will Smith gives one of his best performances yet as he portrays a successful New York ad executive named Howard. The viewing audience is held captive as we are drawn into a life spiraling out of control that barely hinges onto a cross between reality and imagination after the death of his daughter. Watch as the main character runs into the paths of time, love and death in search of the meaning of collateral beauty.

Loved it. Frank Capra would have appreciated this movie. Classic.

Good list of accomplished actors, interesting topics, likeable characters and a knock out twist. But of course, with a pretentious baffling title, it can't be any good without car chases, violence, gore, nudity, terrorism, natural disaster, spectacular sets, super heroes/villains, senseless title and special effects. Another name such as "Loss, not Lost" may boost its rating by one star or more.

This is a movie women would probably enjoy more. It tries real hard to tug on your heart strings, but, the plot is frankly weak. I wouldn't even consider watching it a second time.

I really enjoyed this movie and was surprised how low the critics rated it. I can see how it wouldn't appeal to everyone. All the actors did a good job - Helen Mirren was a jewel.

Plenty of quotes at IMBd except this one near opening of film:

Advertising is about illuminating how our products and services will improve people's lives. Now, how do we do that? Love. Time. Death. Now these three abstractions
connect every single human being on Earth. Everything that we covet, everything that we fear not having, everything that we ultimately end up buying is because at the end of the day we long for love, we wish we had more time, and we fear death.

Best quote:
Howard: I've heard all of your platitudes. I got them, I know. "She's in a better place." And, "This is all a part of a master plan." Heard that one, too. Here's my favorite. "God looked down and saw the most beautiful rose, so beautiful that he picked it to have it in Heaven all for Himself." Then there's the science, biocentrism, and we're all living and dying in infinite universes all at the same time. And then the religion, ...
