Even by romance novel standards, this book's title is a-w-f-u-l. I get that Jeffries was trying to stick with her "The ___ of ____" format for the titles in this series, but dear god. ANYWAY, griping over. Sabrina Jeffries is a bit hit or miss for me, and I'm not sure why -- there have certainly been books of hers that I've enjoyed quite a bit (including the earlier titles in this series) but it sometimes feels like I'm enjoying them in spite of myself. I find something about her writing style anachronistic and clunky, which is troublesome in a historical, and while this book had one of my favorite romance tropes -- second-chance romances -- I still felt somehow slightly removed from the characters. I mean, I still tore through this in like 24 hours -- she definitely knows how to keep the pages turning -- and I actually quite liked all of the characters, but... I don't know. I think that if you like Jeffries' previous books, you'll like this one; but if you've been unimpressed by her in the past, this might not be the best one to change your mind. (Also, if you're looking for another new-release historical about a second-chance romance, put yourself on the hold list for Sarah MacLean's forthcoming "The Day of the Duchess", which is a stellar read, and certainly a superior book to this one.)
