This is the only movie in the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe that has a storyline set after the end of the original series. In this movie the Pharaoh has left the world and gone to the afterlife. Yugi Muto and his friends are living normally. Seto Kaiba has devoted himself to resurrecting the Pharaoh so he can duel him and prove he can beat him. Kaiba tries to resurrect the Pharaoh by reassembling the millenium puzzle. The villain of this movie is named Diva. During an expedition he appears and duels Kaiba. Diva ends up losing but steals two pieces of the puzzle without Kaiba noticing. He gives one to his sister who gives it to Yugi because she is worried that Diva is doing bad things. Kaiba wants to get the last two pieces of the puzzle so he sets up a tournament where he challenges both Yugi and Diva to duels. Yugi duels Diva instead of a three-way duel. After this Yugi steps up to face Kaiba but Diva becomes possessed by the energy of the millenium ring. Yugi and Kaiba duel Diva. Kaiba sacrifices himself but puts the millenium puzzle back together. The Pharaoh appears and they beat Diva. Kaiba comes back after Diva is defeated.

I really liked this movie. The characters all got redesigned and Yugi was tall! 😭 The storyline is basically about the fact that Yugi believes Atem is gone forever and that they should move on with their lives even though they miss him. I liked that because if he just came back every time they were in trouble, Yugi still wouldn't be living his own life. The usual gang talk about what they're doing with their lives after school and they ultimately graduate at the end which made me sad. Compared to other original Yu-Gi-Oh! shows/movies, this one seemed more on the adult side to appease the older generation of Yu-Gi-Oh! fans. There was more plot development and less dueling which was really good and the monsters were 3D the whole time and the animation was so good. It was an all around good movie but kinda on the long side, I highly recommend watching it.
