Really enjoyed the book, "Wickedly Dangerous," by Deborah Blake. This is a fun urban fantasy book that flew by quickly. There is a lot of action to keep a person interested.

As an introduction to the Baba Yaga world, I am left wanting more, specifically details on her magical companions, the Riders. I am hoping we learn more in the future books. If you like the tv show, "Lost Girl," this will have genre similarities: protagonist with an outer-shell of toughness but an inner fragility; a wise-cracking sidekick roommate; a group of big sexy warrior companions to aid the protagonist; and a whole cast of magical creatures wreaking havoc or providing assistance, or both.

Ms. Blake does provide some strong personal opinions on environmental issues, and she embeds them within in the story, such an anti-fracking stance. This book is also pretty skimpy on sex, which I have found pretty rare for this genre. There is discussion of sex, some kissing, discussion of nudity and one main sex scene. There is discussion of drug use, but no graphic discussion. The story takes place in a rural farming community, so there is a lot of discussion of farm animals dying, but there is no graphic description of this. No animal companions are harmed within this story.

Wickedly Dangerous is an urban fantasy story. This book focuses on 1 of 3 United States-based "Baba Yagas." Human alias name: Barbara Yager.

In this story's world, there is a magical realm, with it's own powerful queen & fairy court. Doors between fairy realm & the human world are limited & guarded. Baba Yagas are usually humans who wield fairy/magical powers, & were the subject of powerful Russian legend lore. Aided by various magical creatures, Barbara Yager, is a mix of private investigator, magical police officer, herbal-remedy pharmacist & leather-clad motorcycle adventure-junkie.

With this story, Barbara Yager has been called in to investigate the disappearance of multiple human children & the growing destruction of crops & surrounding land in the town. She tries to walk a fine-line between the magical camp (an angry queen wanting punishment of any party responsible) & the human camp (a determined human sheriff wanting to capture any party responsible). The story outlines her struggle, introduces the reader to the Baba Yaga world and fairy realm. Proceeding sequel/trilogy books will then focus on the other 2 U.S.-based Baba Yagas.
