He was the pride of Bayonne, New Jersey, a man who went fifteen rounds in the ring with Muhammad Ali, and the real life inspiration for Rocky Balboa. Before all that, Chuck Wepner was a liquor salesman and father with a modest prizefighting career whose life changed overnight when, in 1975, he was chosen to take on The Greatest in a highly publicized title match.

There are great films about boxers, some based on true events. Then there are films that play like parodies of the idea of life imitating art imitating life. This film, while having great actors play their roles well, falls flat as the screenwriter, I assume, thinks true events automatically makes for good cinema. A documentary about Chuck Wepner may go the full fifteen rounds but this little drama is a TKO in the 15th. Life imitates art ("Rocky"). Sorry for the spoiler but the fight with Ali took place in 1975. Good luck with that.

I am not a big fan of boxing movies but Liev Schreiber is always very watchable and does a great job in this "based on a true story" movie, as does the rest of the cast. I found `Chuck' to be quite moving as well. It's a tale of a man who hits the heights (quite early in this flick) then leans heavily on his success both socially and emotionally while he slides further and further away from it.

An average boxing biopic about Chuck Wepner who's claim to fame is being a journeyman boxer who was picked to fight heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali in a publicity stunt conceived by promoter Don King. Despite being completely overmatched he hung in there to go 15 rounds with the champ. This climatic match is shown in the first half of the movie and the rest of the movie is about the dispiriting dysfunctional behavior of Wepner with friends, family and law enforcement. There is a subplot of Sylvester Stallone lifting his life story for his award winning Rocky which doesn't show the lawsuit Wepner placed against the actor but using the incident to show Wepner's unfair tale of woe. Just okay and kind of slow moving but Liev Schrieber does a good job portraying a clueless lug. The classic movie Requiem for a Heavyweight highlighted through the film along with The Harder They Fall both based on the hardluck story of Primo Carnera are probably better films about a boxing tragedy.

he was known as 'the bleeder.'

One of the best boxing movies I have ever watched. The movie seems so much like "Rocky" because it was based on Chuck Wepner's life. He may not be remembered by many fight fans, but he may just be best remembered for the movie about his life "Chuck"J!

A true story of prize fighter Chuck Wepner upon whose life much of the original film Rocky was based on. The life of a prize fighter is not pretty and in this case you might call it amazing. The actors play Sylvester Stallone and Mohamed Ali are stunningly right on. "Chuck", I was rooting for you the entire movie!
