Instead of focusing on the traumatic and painful past of Taiwanese comfort women, Song of the Reed, director Wu Hsiu Ching's follow-up to the 1998 documentary A Secret Buried For 50 Years - A Story of Taiwanese Comfort Women, concentrates on the recovery process of the victims to remind people of this cruel history and the importance of staying strong even amid trials and tribulations. A healing workshop for comfort women has been run by Taipei Women's Rescue Foundation for 16 years. Victims speak out on their bitter past and release anger in the workshop. Though the number of participants reduces each year, those who rejected it at first gradually accept it and become active in the workshop. Some of the sufferers have found faith and some have become strong to lead optimistic lives. --
