From Raina Telgemeier, the #1 New York Times bestselling, multiple Eisner Award-winning author of Smile and Sisters!Callie loves theater. And while she would totally try out for her middle school's production of Moon over Mississippi, she can't really sing. Instead she's the set designer for the drama department's stage crew, and this year she's determined to create a set worthy of Broadway on a middle-school budget. But how can she, when she doesn't know much about carpentry, ticket sales are down, and the crew members are having trouble working together? Not to mention the onstage AND offstage drama that occurs once the actors are chosen. And when two cute brothers enter the picture, things get even crazier!

I personally think Smile is a much better book, both from a story perspective and conceptually, but it's still a pretty good read. I do feel however that it would be better served as a YA Graphic Novel, as opposed to Juvenile.

Middle schooler Callie struggles with creating a Broadway-worthy play for her school drama club, as well as dealing with difficult actors and unexpected romance. Good for budding theater kids.

Love Raina Telgemeier's books! Felt like I was back in a school production, with all the "Drama".

"Drama" was listed in ALA's Top 10 Most Challenged Books in 2014, just barely making it into the #10 spot for being "sexually explicit." The definition behind such a term can vary between different communities, and such concerns should be heard.

But personally--and this is a single opinion--this book is okay. It's not stellar, but it's fine.
Let your tween read it if they're interested, but preview the book if you're concerned about the "sexually explicit" material that has been challenged in the past. Consider the context in which such a scene is presented and decide for yourself if it's a cause for concern.

I really enjoyed this! As a former theatre kid, I can attest that this is exactly what it was like, save maybe the extremely. The drama of being a pre-teen is certainly well portrayed in the high paced world of middle school theatre.

I've read Drama a few times and it's a very good book. I would recommend it for kids who are 10-15 years old. I love the drawings and it's really well-written.

Honesly I feel like this Graphic Novel should be in the teen section due to all the LGBT romance involved. Devinatly not a book for 4th or 5th graders and should only be read by 7th graders and older. Otherwise the book is OK but can get very cringy.

Drama was disappointing after reading Smile and Sisters - excellent 4th and 5th grade girl books but this was too much kissing and transgender dating for 4th & 5th grade - definitely 7 - 8th grade level!

Callie, is a complete theater geek. There's just one problem; she can't sing. So instead she's part of the production and loves making sets. For the school's production of Moon Over Mississippi she's overflowing with ideas about what to do. As the play takes up most of her and all her friends time they practically spend all their time in the theatre. She meets lots of friends on the way (and loses a few too) as she's trying her best to put on the best production possible. Will it work it? And will she admit her feelings to her crush?
